Now that we’ve all had some time to get more familiar with the new Microsoft Dynamics CRM user interface I thought I would share some information regarding the Site Map upgrade experience.
There has been much chatter in the forums and email lists regarding the Site Map differences between a new CRM 2013 installation and a CRM 2011 to 2013 upgrade. Some areas of an upgraded CRM Site Map are not available and require modification to surface.
The good news is that Microsoft provides several options for addressing this if you choose to have a more “out-of-the-box” site map experience. You can find a complete description of the issue to include options to address it in the article “Verify new areas are available in the navigation”.
This was not an unknown issue that was discovered. Rather it was planned with the primary reason to ensure that the upgraded navigation options were preserved for the organization and that no site map customization was overwritten during the upgrade process.
Now that you know that you can have the best of both worlds, your 2011 site map customizations combined with the CRM 2013 site map, jump in and make the changes needed. It will most likely take less than 30 minutes to complete.
